Embracing our connection
to the land.

At Dennings Down, we try to keep things simple.

The farm has been organic since 2001 and our sheep and cattle are Pasture for Life certified. That means animals are 100% grass-fed and raised in a way that supports soil health, biodiversity and long-term resilience.

We believe good farming begins beneath our feet. Healthy soil, diverse pastures, strong hedgerows and thriving wildlife are not separate from food production — they are part of it.

Our aim is to work with nature rather than against it. To treat our animals kindly. To keep the farm as self-sufficient as possible. And to ensure that the land is richer, not poorer, for the next generation.

Over the years, we’ve also seen how farming can nurture people as well as landscapes. That has become just as important to us. That’s why we offer a range of educational support programmes.

Our Produce

Meat from 100% grass-fed, pasture raised animals reflects and enriches the landscape it comes from. When cattle and sheep are raised on diverse pastures rather than grain-based systems, the meat is significantly more nutrient dense. Just as importantly, well-managed grazing plays a role in restoring soil health. Animals moving across pasture stimulate grass growth, return nutrients to the soil and encourage deeper root systems. Healthy soils store more carbon, hold water more effectively, and support a wider range of plants, insects and wildlife. In this way, pasture-based farming can contribute not only to nourishing people, but also to strengthening biodiversity and improving long-term carbon capture.

Organic and Pasture For Life certified Lamb and Beef

Our organically tanned sheepskins are treated without harsh chemical processes, helping to reduce environmental impact while preserving the natural qualities of the wool. The result is a breathable, durable and biodegradable product that retains its softness and insulating properties. By using skins as a by-product of responsibly raised livestock, nothing is wasted, and the value of the whole animal is honoured in a practical, sustainable way.

Our Team

Hamish, the farmer and landowner, standing outdoors next to his collie, in a green natural setting with bushes and tall grass.

Hamish Bengough

Hamish has lived and worked at Dennings Down Farm all his life. He cares deeply about farming in a way that works with nature and is never happier than when people are visiting and sharing in the place he feels lucky to call home.

When the meadows are full of flowers and pollinators, the birds soon follow, and the farm fills with birdsong. For Hamish, a healthy farm is a noisy one – full of insects, wildlife and the sound of birds in the hedges.

Morgan Shore

Morgan always wanted to be a farmer. When he told Hamish this, he was invited to come and help at Dennings Down for a week… and never really left. These days you’re just as likely to see him driving the tractor, helping with lambing, or caring for the animals across the farm.

Morgan is happiest outdoors and very much part of the everyday life of the farm. In fact, locals will tell you he’s rarely seen without his shorts on — even in the middle of winter.

Heather supports all of the learning that happens on the farm. She has a real gift for helping children grow in confidence through hands-on activities and time spent outdoors. She also works closely with teachers, home learning families, and community groups to tailor sessions to what the children want and need. Whether it’s pond dipping, animal care, or willow weaving, Heather ensures every visitor leaves with something new, a sense of accomplishment and a little bit of wonder.
