The Treehouse Classroom at Dennings Down Farm
Tucked beneath the shade of the biggest tree on the farm, the Treehouse Classroom at Dennings Down has quickly become a special place for learning, gathering, and spending time close to nature.
Built using oak from a tree felled here on the farm, the Treehouse reflects the same simple, thoughtful approach that runs through everything at Dennings Down. It is a practical, welcoming space — fully accessible, with room for classes, groups and small events — while still feeling very much part of the landscape around it.
The project was made possible thanks to the support of the Blackdown Hills National Landscape and funding from a Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) grant. This support has helped create a space that allows the farm to extend its work with schools, community groups and visitors throughout the year, whatever the weather.
For schools, the Treehouse offers a base where learning can begin or be brought together at the end of a day outside — a place to gather, reflect, and continue exploring ideas sparked out on the farm. For others, it provides a calm and characterful setting for meetings, workshops and small events.
As more people begin to use the space, it is already clear that the Treehouse is becoming something more than just a building. It is a place where people can connect — with the farm, with each other, and with the natural world that surrounds them.
